A gorgeous location for Spring family photos at Reeves Reed Arboretum in Summit NJ. Each Spring around the middle of April there is a large daffodil bloom that happens at the arboretum. I had the pleasure of photographing a family session during this time and it was breathtaking. There’s a large hill that runs down the property with over 50,000 blooms! The arboretum is beautiful at every time of year and is a perfect backdrop for family portraits.
Called the “Daffodil Bowl” the flowers were first planted by one of the property owners back in the 1920s. They bloom every April and people come from all over to see them! The house on the property was built in 1889 and the back of it overlooks the entire property. They have art exhibits here and event rentals, a beautiful spot for memories. As you can see in the images the daffodils really surround you in the space. We also went on a weekday so it wasn’t as crowded as the weekends get!

Beyond the daffodils, the arboretum has many other picturesque areas to photograph. Winding paths that lead to flowering trees, open fields, and other flower varieties cover the property. You can explore the gardens and trails, and check out the beautiful house that welcomes you when you first arrive. Also because the surroundings are so large, your kids are able to run around and have fun, creating candid moments with your family.

Flowy dresses, linen shirts, and coordinating (but not overly matching) outfits add a timeless, elegant touch. Avoid loud patterns that would clash with the delicate surroundings, and comfortable shoes are best for exploring the gardens.
My client’s chose their outfits based on the surroundings that we would be in, and keeping in my the time of year. Melissa chose her dress first and then based the rest of her family’s outfits around that. I think the colors worked perfectly together and highlight the natural style I always tell my clients to choose.

Because the daffodil season is brief, preparing in advance is ideal. The arboretum requires a permit in order to control the crowds and give families the best opportunities for photographs. If you’re interested in family photos at Spring family photos at Reeves Reed Arboretum please reach out!
